Out of the mouths of babes...

Last night Elizabeth came to stay. One day during the week she asked me if she could sleep at my house and what kind on nannie would I be if I had said 'no'. So last night she asked me for a story and I told her 'Little Red Riding Hood' ( she likes all the old fairy tales best)..we told a nice version of the classic tale and she sat entranced throughout, eyes like saucers.

At the end I said, 'Did you like that story?' and quick as a flash she said 'yes' in a matter of fact kind of a way that really said ' it was ok'. So quizzing a bit and looking for a bit of reassurance I asked ' do you like nannies stories?' she thought a bit and then said 'I like my daddies stories' so I had to ask 'Why's that then?' ...I couldn't argue with the answer.....

'My daddy tells me beautiful stories'...I am happy to play second fiddle to that....

Aren't children wonderful?

It's taking 'sew' long

I don't know what's wrong with my sewing machine but I hope it isn't terminal. I have had no word from the 'surgeon' so I am a bit nervous!! I have several bears in the middle of being sewn up and the lovely old Singer won't manage the bulk of faux fur under it's sturdy old foot..and though they are hand sewable I am not keen to start it...it takes forever. So I am making a mohair bear and finishing a couple of minis hoping that my trusty Janome will be back home next week, I have 2 bears and a cat promised and they need to be finished soon!!
Keep your fingers crossed for me...I don't want to have to buy a new machine!!

One for the road!!

Today I took my mother to see her sisters in Matlock Derbyshire. They are both older than her though rather more sprightly as my mother uses a wheelchair most of the time. Except on one very funny occasion in a charity shop when she spotted a pair of brand new shoes in her size and shot out of the wheelchair like she was on the starting blocks in the Olympics...so I can never watch Lou and Andy on Little Britain without thinking of my mother!!
Well, we drove there early this morning and went to my Aunties apartment in Matlock and we left them to have lunch and a chat while Judi and I went mooching around a big antique centre.

We came back about two hours later to find my mother had had three brandies and was decidedly rosy.
They had a lovely time as I do think she misses them since they moved there to be nearer to family...
It's not often I take a day off from bear making..and I did come home and cut out a little one..but in this case it was worth it..
